The Lokal

*please watch in HD :)

I have read too many good reviews about The Lokal  but I don't understand why I took so long to finally visit this cafe..haha! It's located at a corner shophouse along Neil Road. The Lokal  is the sister outlet of Sarnies and its decor and ambiance will give you the Aussie feel, remind me of the cafes that I visited during my Melbourne trip! We visited on a public holiday afternoon and a mini queue was already formed inside the cafe. I think we got our table after a 15-20 minutes wait which was not too bad actually! And we got the window seats which means i got good lighting to take pictures! :p

We were so famished by that time but we just couldn't decide which item to order because everything just look so promising..lol! We ordered a roasted beef ciabatta and a smoked salmon egg royale to share. For the drinks, sf had the hot chocolate because she said she just had coffee this morning before meeting me? LOL! I'm not really a coffee person so I always opt for mocha..hehe! Our food came pretty fast and omg i can totally understand what's the hype about this cafe just by trying both dishes that we ordered!  I personally adored the egg royale more! That delicious slab of smoked salmon was done to perfection and this was coming from a person (aka me) who don't really fancy salmon (except raw salmon)! The egg yolk flows out perfectly as well..just watch the video and you will know what I meant..haha! Being a bread lover, I absolutely enjoy the beef ciabatta which is the perfect combination of sliced sauteed beef and caramelized onions (insert heart eyes emoji)!

I still remember it was super hazy that day (PSI hit around 300+!!) but it was nonetheless a well spent afternoon with lots of catch up and updates with sf! Overall, The Lokal  definitely lives up to its hype and it certainly deserves a return visit anytime!

Inked.

Tattoos have a power and magic all their own. They decorate the body but they also enhance the soul.
-Michelle Delio

Yes, i did my first tattoo last month and it was the boldest decision i had ever made so far.

I thought of getting one since long time ago but i know my parents will strongly object on the idea of getting inked. I don't know why and how I finally have the courage to go for it without telling them, lol. Frankly speaking, I felt nervous and scared when i was seated at the tattoo place. Questions that kept repeating in my head "Do i really wanted to get this? Will I regret in the future?" But i know one thing for sure, I will surely regret if I didn't do it.

I designed the tattoo myself and i just want to keep it simple so it was basically made up by lines. The whole progress was quite fast though it hurts so much. Ok, the pain level was still manageable, at least I didn't pass out..lol. The feeling was surreal after seeing the final product on my wrist, I never imagine myself of getting inked, like for real! Ok, i know it's really small but still it's something that i never thought that i will have it done.

They said one might get addicted once get inked, I have to agree..haha!

Faculty of Caffeine (Revisit)

Just some of the visuals at one of my favorite cafes in JB after our lunch at Sushi Zento (click here for more details). Can't decide between tiramisu and the brownies so we decided to go for both! The brownie was still as good as the last time we had but tiramisu is such a disappointment. Can't remember the drinks we ordered but it was some peach tea and passion fruit tea, very refreshing i like!

Read my first visit here ! :)

Monsta Cafe

Last brunch with my lil sis before she flew back to Taiwan 2 weeks ago. Shen Sim brought us to this Monsta Cafe which is located at Bukit Indah. The cafe is located at the roadside, occupied a corner lot with its cartoonish billboard. I was surprised to find that the cafe is divided into two parts of completely different themes..lol! The front part is just a small area with their specialise coffee and bakery and the decor gives a vintage british feel which i love! The 2nd part of the cafe is mainly for dining. The space is much more bigger than the front part and it's filled with colourful furnitures and decorations.

A good menu design somehow gives me a better impression to the cafe as i think menu plays an important role in the cafe and i was really impressed with Monsta Cafe's menu. Their menu is quite thick, designed in a way that it looks like a magazine with the pictures of the food and some of their background story. I can see how much effort they put in for designing a menu like this as i just did a menu design for my assignment..lol!

Anyway, we ordered a mushroom soup and monsta fries to share. I really loveee the packaging of the monsta fries! Yes, i was a sucker for those pretty packaging stuff..hahaha! The mushroom soup was good but i think they can do better with the garlic bread..haha! For our mains, we ordered the grilled chicken chop, prawn aglio olio and huge chicken chop (yes the name is huge chicken chop)! The portion of the huge chicken chop was indeed huge..haha! So glad that everything on the plate was done very well without being too oily! I love the criss-cross fries! I love aglio olio a lot so i always order aglio olio if it's available on the menu. Sadly speaking, there isn't much good aglio olio around so i was glad that the aglio olio here was really good!

Curious Palette

The guys behind Stranger Reunion has opened a new cafe along Princep Street and I decided to bring my sis to try it! The cafe is quite hidden and might be easily missed as currently there's only one small blackboard lying on a chair outside of the cafe as their signboard..lol! We went on a Saturday afternoon and with no surprise the cafe was fully packed. We waited for around 15 mins to get seated.

Being a sweet potato fries lover, I can't resist myself to order the truffle sweet potato fries for our sides..hehe! Sweet potato fries already sounds amazing itself, but with truffle? Of course must order hahaha! However, we can't really taste the truffle in the fries. For our mains, we ordered a Curious Breakfast and a portobello mushroom with scrambled egg (can't rmb the exact name..lol) to share. I must say that the presentation of the food at Curious Palette was really pretty and instagram-worthy! For the mains, i thought it was pretty average, nothing to shout about.

Here's come the highlight of our meal - Berries Ricotta Hotcake!! I was telling my sis that we must order this for our dessert and i din expect the portion to be this big?? I almost got a shock when it was served...lol! The hotcake was decorated with strawberries, blueberries, sunflower seeds and a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top, it was indeed the prettiest hotcake i have ever seen..haha! The hotcake was crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside though it was pretty thick. We couldn't finish the hotcake because we were too full from the other dishes #alwaysoverordering I think it would be good to share among 4-5 friends as the serving size was really bigg! Overall a pleasant brunch with my two sisters, would love to be back to try for their dinner menu since the place is quite near to where i stay..hehe!
